Museums Northumberland is offering free tours for Heritage Open Days. Join us to discover this buildings interesting (and rather grim) history.

Have a look around, find out more about the poor inmates’ daily chores and their bleak diet.

The tours will take place on Saturday 14th September at 11:00am, 12noon, 1pm and 2pm, starting from Hexham Old Gaol and involve a 15 minute walk to the House of Correction.

Because of very limited numbers booking is essential.

Accessibility details

Due to the nature of the building, only the ground floor of the House of Correction is accessible to wheelchair users. The tour guide will have a folder of information and photographs of the first floor of the building. The tour of the House of Correction is suitable for older children.

Admission to Hexham Old Gaol is free for Heritage Open Days on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th September.
