HoD – Deaf Centre Make Some Noise!

HOD at the Deaf Centre:
On the 13th of September 2024 and for the first time in its history, the Newcastle Deaf Centre (NDC) took part in the celebration of the Heritage Open Days (HoD). This beautiful Grade 2 listed building located in a stunning area of Newcastle, UK - the Summerhill Square opened its doors to celebrate the theme of the day: HOD - The Deaf Centre Make Some Noise! ( DC Make Some Noise!)
The event showcased the most recent NDC's projects to the wider public. These range from disability inclusion, education, and advocacy to intergenerational and intercultural works across all demographics, as the Centre works with children, young adults, young families and the Old Age Pensioners offering inclusive services for deaf and hearing members of our community.
The day became an opportunity for a series of talks and presentations and was completed with a nutritious lunch prepared by NDC’s chef and a tour of our stunning building showcasing its rich architectural and community history. The most applause was given to the NDC’s hidden gem - a chapel with the stained glass windows made on-site by the members of the Deaf Community back in 1950s. The Feedback received on the day was fantastic, with many visitors wishing to take part in the 2025 DC Make Some Noise! HoD celebration! This year we will celebrate the HoD – DC Make Some Noise on the 19th of September with additional hands- on interactive activities focused on deafness. Join to celebrate with us!
