See the visible remains of woodland activities from early stone markings, coppicing,  charcoal production and white coal Q pits, mining for coal and ganister, timber plantings and present-day ponds ‘slowing the flow.’

Start:  the entrance to Ecclesall Woods on Abbeydale Road opposite  Beauchief Gardens SK 324 817

Finish: J G Graves Woodland Discovery Centre off Abbey Lane. (If you wish to park at the Discovery Centre (voluntary parking charge £2.70), meet at 10:10 at the Discovery Centre to walk down to the start with the leaders.)
 
Terrain: mainly good paths but with a few fairly steep, uneven sections and steps 

Grade: moderate

Bring food and drink or purchase at the “Coffee Stop” outdoor cafe at the Discovery Centre
