The Old Park and Chequers Wood is a large, beautiful open space on the outskirts of Canterbury with a long history, a wealth of wildlife and a Site of Special Scientific Interest. This guided walk will offer a chance to explore its many pleasures.

The Old Park covers around 250 hectares (over 600 acres) so it's bigger than Hyde Park, but many local people have never visited it. This walk will offer a chance to explore its many pleasures.

The story will begin with the prehistoric people who lived here 500,000 years ago, and will take in the medieval water supply, the royal deer park of Tudor times, the history of the golf course, the use of the Old Park by the military, the Site of Special Scientific Interest - and the threats from new developments.

The paths can be muddy if it has been raining and some are a little steep. Boots or sturdy shoes are advised.
