Historic Walk through Kirkburton
Shelley Lane, Kirkburton, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, HD8 0SJ
Join the Kirkburton History Group on a circular route round the oldest part of the village of Kirkburton. We will share what we know about the history of the buildings and the stories that they tell! We would love to hear your memories too and any extra bits of information you know about our wonderful village!
The 1 km walk starts and ends at All Hallows’ Church. It is suitable for families and people of all ages who want to learn more about the history of our village. The walk is not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.
Within the church there are information stands displaying further facts and photos of Kirkburton and guides available to give you further information about the church’s rich history.
Spend time enjoying the exhibition of the Kirkburton and Highburton Heritage Project with 17 local landmarks beautifully depicted in various textiles. Families can even try out weaving themselves with mini looms and other craft activities-no booking required.
We will also show you how to navigate the Burial Grounds Management System website to find an ancestor! You can also find out how to adopt a grave!
Finally, you can join the Highburton and Kirkburton Sketchers, trying your hand at sketching some of the beautifully carved gravestones you have seen during the tour.

The pavements through the village are quite narrow in places.
We would suggest a whole morning or afternoon is put aside for this location. A tour of interesting graves within the graveyard follows this walk. Please see separate event for booking.
