Heritage Tour: The Pulse of Change

40 Duke Street, Brighton & Hove, East Sussex, BN1 1AG

  • 15 Sep 2024
  • In person
  • Pre-booking preferred

A relaxed accessible tour of our 200 year old building, a former Regency church which now houses an arts organisation. Find out some of the most significant changes to our building's architectural and social history in central Brighton.

Explore the history of Holy Trinity Church with a 45 minute, volunteer-led tour of the building.

Presented as part of Heritage Open Days: Routes – Networks – Connections

This free tour will run twice: 11.30am-12.30pm and 1.30-2.30pm

This year's tour will be connecting the dots of some of our building’s most significant changes in its history, exploring the physical transitions of the church due to a combination of social, cultural and philosophical changes over the years. From the design influence of Thomas Kemp in the early 1800’s to Reverend Anderson’s ambitious developments, into the impact of famous and charismatic preacher Reverend Robertson and finally the current custodians of the building, Fabrica, who continue the story of this site with contemporary communities as well as planning for a more sustainable future for the building.

Join Colette and Lucy for an illuminating perspective on this unique and historic site of heritage and change.

A café will be available on site for hot drinks and snacks.
Suitable for all ages, this is an accessible tour on a site with a ramp entrance and disabled access loos.

Developed as part of Past:Present:Future, a Heritage Lottery funded project in which we researched the history of our 200 year old building, and presented a series of events and materials as part of this learning. Our book will be available to buy on the day in our gift shop, and is also available online.
