The Commandery

Set in the heart of historic Worcester, The Commandery is most famous for being the Royalist Headquarters during the deciding battle of the English Civil War – the Battle of Worcester 1651.
Visitors will be able to enjoy the museum and beautiful gardens for free, including the Civil War Story telling Worcester’s vital role in the English Civil War, the magnificent medieval Painted Chamber and the stunning Great Hall.
Built on the site of an early medieval chapel, The Commandery has also been a monastic hospital, family home, a college for the blind, and it housed the Littlebury Printworks before becoming today’s museum revealing significant stories of its city’s history.
With lots of history to uncover, gardens to explore, interactive fun and regular events, The Commandery is the perfect place for a family day out.
