The beautiful garden is open all year but the Gazebo itself, a place from which to gaze, will be open for you to explore and some interpretation will be available to explain why it was created

Tucked away between East Street and the Pallant in Havant town centre, the Gazebo Garden a fine example of a late 18th century town house garden is worth seeking out. The gazebo and garden were restored in 2017 with Heritage Lottery Funding.

The gazebo, a summer house from which to ‘gaze’ out over Havant, is now open.. The building is constructed from locally made bricks and internally finished with traditional lime plaster it gives a sense of the grand houses and gardens of this part of Havant, which was particularly popular in the 18th century as it was away from the sounds and smells of the tanning and parchment industries in the west of the town.

The garden has been designed using plants that were popular in the late 18th century. These include perennials such as Lavender, Sage, Peony, Iris and Agapanthus. Flowering shrubs including Lilac, Laurustinus and Camellia give year round colour. Apple and pear trees are trained against the garden walls.

Take time to search out the Gazebo Garden and enjoy a break from modern life. Information panels tell you more about the planting, 18th century gardens and the history of the owners and the house that were attracted to this now hidden, corner of Havant.
