Goole - Local artist Rueben Chappel
Goole Museum amd library, Carlisle Road, Goole, East Riding of Yorkshire, DN14 5DS
This talk follows the local artist, Rueben Chapell, from his early life growing up close to the Goole's docks and ships, through establishing himself as a professional painter of ships as a young man. Later he left the town and life he knew for Cornwall, where he settled with his family. The talk also explores the wide variety of vessels trading on the Humber in the late 19th century, which Chappell captured in his artwork. It also looks at the legacy of these paintings in Goole and ports across Europe, and their importance as a source to those who study the evolution of shipping technology.
