The Chapel at Giggleswick School, near Settle, is opening its doors to visitors on Sunday 15th September. The day will start with a school chapel service at 10am which members of the public are welcome to attend. Pre-booking is required for the chapel service.During the day volunteers will be on hand to show people around and answer questions about this inspiring building. At intervals, there will be musical performances from members of the school community. This will include performances on the Henry Willis organ.
With its impressive copper dome and stunning interior, it is an iconic landmark that dominates the surrounding countryside. The Chapel was the gift to Giggleswick School of Walter Morrison of Malham, built in 1897 to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria.
It is a rare example of a building in which every detail, including building, decoration and furniture, has been designed and completed in perfect sympathy under the direction of the same hand - T.G Jackson, a leading architect of the time.
