Gathering Walk for the launch of the Saint Aelred's Pilgrim Trail

The Gathering Walk to mark the launch of the Saint Aelred's Pilgrim Trail is a stunning 12 mile walk through the scenic hills and dales of the North York Moors, visiting the beautiful, historic, rural churches along the route. It starts at All Saints Church, Hawnby at 8.30am, picking up more walkers at the churches in the villages of Old Byland (for a coffee, cake and water stop), moves on to Saint Mary's, Scawton, then Cold Kirby (for packed lunch in the Village Hall). From here it drops down the Cleveland Way to Ashberry Farm, and takes the wooded path around Ashberry Hill to Bow Bridge then on to Rievaulx Chapel and the Church of Saint Mary the Virgin (slipper chapel to the Abbey). Walkers will arrive at the Abbey at 4pm approximately to gather in the Abbey Nave for a service and short address, followed by a Launch Reception in the Abbey Café.

Walkers on this gathering walk will be able to park carefully at the villages where they wish to walk from: Hawnby, Old Byland, Scawton, Cold Kirby and Rievaulx. Toilets are at Old Byland, Cold Kirby and Rievaulx.

This is a YHCT Ride and Stride Event. Walkers are encourage walkers to join at different stages so people can choose the distance they want to walk. Our timetable is: 1. All Saints, Hawnby (YO62 5QA ) leave at 8.45am 2. All Saints, Old Byland (YO62 5LG) arrive at 10am for coffee and cake. Leave at 10.30am 3. Arrive at Saint Mary’s, Scawton (YO7 2HG) at 11.40am, leave at 11.45am 4. Arrive at Saint Michael’s, Cold Kirby (YO7 2HL) 12.45pm for your own sandwich lunch in the Village Hall, Leave Cold Kirby at 1.45pm 5. Arrive at Rievaulx for the service in the Abbey Nave and Launch Reception. 4pm
