From the Garden of Eden to Paradise, a journey in stained glass
St Mary the Virgin Church, Hart Street, Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, RG9 2AU
St Mary's Church is situated near Henley Bridge, one of the earliest crossing points of the River Thames. Both the earliest church building and the first bridge date from the 13th century. The church has changed many times over the years and now has a wonderful display of stained glass depicting many scenes and personalities from the bible, many of them donated by and commemorating local people. Come and explore the windows, and we will take you on a tour from Adam and Eve to Mary, Queen of Heaven, and explain where you can find locally the start of a route to pick up the Camino de Santiago de Compostela in northern Spain. Binoculars will be useful to see the detail in some of the high windows.
The church will be open each day between 1000 and 1600. Please be aware that this is place of prayer and worship, and be considerate of all users.
