The Friends of St Helens Cemetery was created in January 2006, they strive to maintain and protect the environment and grounds of the cemetery, preserve its rich heritage and are engaged in initiatives which promote its history. They plan new initiatives and work in partnership with St Helens Borough Council and other agencies. The Friends of St Helens Cemetery are members of the National Federation of Cemetery Friends. In June 2022, the group were awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service - the MBE for volunteer groups. In 2024 they received a Green Flag Community Award.
This event is funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of the ‘Creative Underground’ project, coordinated by St Helens Archive Service, part of St Helens Borough Council.
