Four Hundred Years of Striking Bells with Hammers
St. Andrews Church, Upper Church Lane, Farnham, Surrey, GU9 7PW
Mechanical devices have been chiming the hours and playing tunes on the bells at St Andrew's Church since the reign of Charles 1st. This illustrated talk describes the workings of the ancient tower clock and a series of chime machines which have preserved the tune 'Life Let us Cherish', affectionately recalled by many local authors. One of the machines was restored last year by Men in Sheds and will be demonstrated during the talk.
