Flint Man Walk

Led by David Smith, a flintwork specialist with an international reputation for applying it to modern buildings. This walk will allow participants to learn about the prolific use of flint in the town, the craftmanship, techniques and traditions used.

A guided tour by 'The Flint Man', David Smith, showing how flint has been used as a building material over the centuries, including the Norman castle and defensive walls, to churches and grand houses. The different types of flint used will be identified together with the structure and techniques employed in a variety of buildings across different centuries.

Some steep, uneven surfaces on the walk, which will include public footways adjacent to busy highways. The walk will take between one hour and one and a half hours.

Make sure you come dressed appropriately with waterproof clothing and with comfortable footwear.
