Big Quilt of Water & Big Quilt of Change and More Care Design Collective Exhibition
The Assembly Room, The Crescent, Devonshire Dome, Buxton, Derbyshire, SK17 6BH
In Buxton's magnificent Assembly rooms, this art exhibition showcases the creative endeavours of two local art groups. The More Care Design Collective presents a series of ornate plaster cast panels featuring animal characters inspired by local wildlife from the era of the second Roman invasion. This group has dedicated time to mastering sustainable and heritage craft techniques. Alongside, Ruby Moon spearheads the Quilt of Water & Quilt of Change, a community textile initiative. The Big Quilt of Change is a tapestry of aspirations, symbolising the societal transformations we hope to see and believe are attainable. It represents a collective effort, filled with love and compassion, which also supported Syrian relief efforts—a cause deeply etched in the collectives conscience. The Big Quilt of Water, crafted with contributions from across the UK, serves as a testament to the critical role of water in our lives. It addresses the pressing issues of pollution in our seas and rivers, the growing concerns over water scarcity and drought, and celebrates the multifaceted nature of water—from its life-sustaining properties to its spiritual significance. This exhibition is not just a display of art, but a reflection on water's vital presence in all its forms—ice, snow, steam—and its powerful influence on our world.
