Fearnville Stories - A People's History of Fearnville Leisure Centre
Oakwood Lane, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS8 3LF
Fearnville Leisure Centre opened in 1980 and is a well-loved landmark of life in East Leeds. Local people have fond memories of learning to swim here or teaching their own children, and of pool-side parties and five-a-side under the floodlights. The building will soon make way for a brand new state-of-the-art Wellbeing Centre, bringing a chapter of Gipton life to a close.
We're opening up our creative space in one of the Centre's squash courts to celebrate the history of this popular local landmark. Join us for tea and cake, and listen to recorded stories of Centre users and staff as they share their memories of the building. Visitors of all ages will also be able to work with a professional artist to hand print your own free memento to take home. Drop in any time during opening hours.
