Eye Twin Victorian Chapels and Eye Cemetery Suffolk
The Gables, Yaxley Road, Eye, Suffolk, IP23 7DP
This event is a real opportunity to get involved with living history and a vision for the future. The chapels are not normally open to the public. It is to bring awareness of a very special project to restore and repurpose the chapels. You can get involved with living history by joining the group who are working on this prestigious project and help to preserve our heritage, your skills can help to provide a living memory and a place of heritage, history, reflection and regeneration.
This is a working project and as much input and information gained on the day will be taken forward and influence the work in coming years. The team will welcome any local historic information or links with the graves and memorials within the cemetery as this unique historic project moves into the third year.
With the widening of the cemetery entrance completed you can see this project is gaining momentum and now actively looking for people with the skills to make this work, contact with relatives of loved ones at rest is required to bring history to life. What did the people do in their life and what stories have they left that can be passed to future generations. Can all the headstones and memorials be saved and those colourful lives be portrayed in one of the chapels to tell our children what life was like then and what those at rest achieved for Eye.

The Chapels are either side of a gravel driveway the ground is firm however slightly uneven in places. The Older part of the cemetery is however very uneven and is home to a large number of rabbits this year, staying on the pathways would be advisable, please ask if assistance is required. Dogs are welcome if they are on a lead.
