A Self built house under construction, (phase 1 complete; phase 2 concluding). Structural timber post and beam; using locally grown and milled timber, sheep's wool and wood-fibre board insulation, triple glazed windows and a sedum-planted roof. Breathing wall construction. Solar thermal, passive solar and wood burning stove for water & space heating. Low energy and running costs. Low carbon. Re-use of brown-field site in rural location. Children are welcomed along with all other visitors but we have not made any special arrangements for them. All children MUST be supervised at all times on site and during the visit by their parents or accompanying adult(s).
No limit on numbers in a tour but pre-booking is required for groups of 8 people or more (call 01688 213 046)

Disabled access to site. Level access within ground floor of house. Wheelchair users will require assistance to access to ground floor of the house - we are hoping to instal temporary ramped provision but this will be of a steeper gradient and of restricted width (800mm). We are unable to accommodate dogs in the house or on the site unless an official guide dog.
An ecological, energy-efficient and affordable home designed & built by its architect owners/ occupants. PDA to site but not yet to house. Printed handouts providing illustrated outline project & construction details as well as information on the materials, suppliers, products used - are available free, in leaflet form, to all visitors. Presentations and discussions ongoing during the day: describing building process, method of construction and materials - along with exhibition on self build and the work of the architect Walter Segal - publications on sale.
