Echoes of Applause: 1994 Gosport Summer Festival
Gosport Museum and Art Gallery Courtyard, 19 Walpole Road, Gosport, Hampshire, PO12 1NS
30 years on from the 1994 Festival, David Marks' film combines interviews, archival footage, and firsthand accounts to create a snapshot of a moment in time that preserves a slice of local history.
Gosport festivals, held between 1991 and 1996, were some of the biggest musical events in Hampshire and hosted major artists covering blues, rock, jazz, classical, world, and roots music. At the time Gosport outshone many of its neighbours as one of the major destinations on the south coast for outdoor music festivals.
Arrive early if you wish to be greeted by some local live music in the open-air Courtyard at Gosport Museum and Art Gallery. Chat with others who were there too. You can even buy some local beer to refresh yourself.
Then, as dusk falls around 7.30pm, the screening begins!
Will it stir your memories of a great festival and community time in 1994? If so, you’ll have the opportunity to share your stories and your memorabilia with the Echoes of Applause project!
Echoes of Applause is part of the Gosport Heritage Generator programme being delivered by Hampshire Cultural Trust with support from Gosport Borough Council and The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
