The Grade II listed Durham Town Hall houses many atmospheric spaces, fascinating histories, and long held traditions; many of which continue to this day. The Hall remains the official office of the Mayor of Durham and the Mayoral Bodyguard, a tradition that dates back to 1602. The Guildhall is the oldest part of the Town Hall, this is the historic home of the Trade Guilds and Durham City Freemen; groups who shaped Durham for more than 500 years.
