John Lowe’s new book “Dorset Houses” is an invitation to explore some of Dorset’s finest houses and learn how they were designed, used, and constructed - from the Bronze Age to the twenty first century. His talk is based on the book, illustrated with reconstruction paintings, photographs and historic images. The works of some of the most significant architects and designers will be shown together with the controversies behind some of their designs. The book offers new research and observations bringing surprising twists to the understanding of these historic buildings and helping to ensure the survival of this rich and beautiful legacy.

John Lowe has had a long and distinguished career as an architect, supporting the conservation of historic buildings, first at Burnley, Lancashire, then at Dorset County Council. He is author of Burnley (1985, Philimore) and Dorset Houses (2024) and was the founder and original manager of Dorset Architectural Heritage Week.
