Meet your tour guide, Stewart Shuttleworth, at the Lock Keeper for a walk along the old Chester Canal in the 21st century to discover 19th century industrial development as part of Heritage Open Days.

The walk will look at the remains of the industrial heritage in the canal side area . Following the building of the canal in the eighteenth century there was a concentration of industries alongside it. Some of the earlier riverside industry migrated across. Some aspects have been regenerated into modern developments. We will look at corn mills, warehouses, remains of the lead works and hydraulic engineering. The industry will be discussed in the context of canal transport.
