  • Multiple dates available
  • In person

This exhibition will showcase the work of 25 different professional photographers, adorning the walls of a 17th-century Dartmoor barn alongside historic photographs from the Dartmoor Archive.

A moorland-focused photographic exhibition, hosted by the Dartmoor Trust, will take place from September 7th to September 15th, 2024, in the Village of Manaton, Devon. Among the talented photographers featured are Nicholas J R White, Robert Darch, Suzy Bennett, Josh Greet, Fern Leigh Albert, and many others.

The land surrounding the exhibition was once home to an early practitioner of photography for scientific study. Photographs from Arthur Roope Hunt, one of the first photographers to attempt to capture the aesthetic qualities of moorland working people with a camera, will be shown alongside modern day work. Hunt's work beautifully captures Dartmoor farming methods in the 1880s, his descendants still reside at the farm today.

The exhibition is part of a wider project being run by the Dartmoor Trust in the legacy of Phoebe Wortley-Talbot. Centred around photography and art, this legacy project is bringing together a skilful body of creatives to create a lasting portrait of Dartmoor. The aim of this collaborative project, run by The Dartmoor Trust, is that it will encompass the essence of the moor as interpreted through the eyes of contemporary practitioners. It will serve as a documentation of life on Dartmoor and the artistic processes we use today.
