  • 14 Sep 2024
  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

Walk from Woburn Sands to the Iron-Age hillfort of Danesborough Camp, high on the Greensands Ridge. Visit the place where an ancient tribe of Britain lived 2000 years ago and learn about the huge fortification they built. Sturdy footwear essential.

Join a guided walk to visit a Scheduled Historical Monument Danesborough, deep in the woods on the Bow Brickhill to Woburn Sands ridge.

Your guide will explain how and why the people of an ancient tribe built a huge fortification over 2000 years ago during the Iron-Age. We will discuss the people and the environment of those who lived there during this time, what archaeology can tell us about the hillfort, and what caused its abandonment sometime in the late 1st Century A.D. The tour starts in Woburn Sands and climbs the ridge to Danesborough Hillfort.

It is a circular walk around the earthworks and enclosure before returning back to the start. Please note: this is a HILLfort so by design is on a hill so there will be a gradual climb up to the fort and the ground is rough and uneven. This is only suitable for the physically able and sturdy footwear is essential. Walk time 90 minutes to 2 hours maximum.
