Corsham Figure of 8 Walk
Springfield community campus, Corsham, Wiltshire, SN13 9DN
This walk starts at the Springfield Centre at 1000, is approx. 9 miles and is classed as Moderate.
This walk seeks to explore the area to the East and West of Corsham Town Centre, visiting Corsham High Street, St. Bartholomew’s Church, Corsham Court and Dry Arch out then onto Westrop across fields without stiles with magnificent views out to the White Horse on Cherhill Down. We return to the Town via Corsham Park once a deer park and designed by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown.
A lunch break will be taken at the Lady Margaret Hungerford Almshouses with the opportunity to view this 17th Century building.
Following our picnic lunch, we will head out West going via the Community Garden at The Pound viewing the Garden of Remembrance, through Tramways and down Pockeredge Drive and Lakes, then out North to Guyers House and the Old Turnpike Road with views out to Hartham House with its Stické Tennis Court, before returning past Middlewick House and the Old Dairy.
We explore the heritage associated with the Stone Quarrying Industry, Underground Bunkers of WWII and several fine buildings and landscape.
The historic market town of Corsham is surrounded by beautiful countryside and sits on the fringe of the Cotswolds National Landscape and has a population of around 14,000 people. But Corsham’s most colourful - and noisiest - residents are its peacocks strolling down the High Street!
Please bring a packed lunch and refreshments for the walk.
