Connections: Lincolnshire’s Ecclesiastical Heritage and Britain’s Military History
St Peter's Church and Stixwould Village Hall, Stixwould, Lincolnshire, LN10 5HP
A brass plaque near the font of St Peter's Church is in memory of Major ‘Gentleman Jim’ Almonds, resident and scholar of Stixwould who was a founder member of the SAS and died in the village in 2005. This plaque connects the church to the story of Major Almonds. His life story begins and ends in Stixwould and is directly connected to Stixwould Village Hall.
Major Almonds’s family moved to the village in 1874 and both he and his father were pupils at the school until the age of fourteen. There will be an exhibition at Stixwould Village Hall funded by a National Lottery Heritage Fund which looks at his early life.
