Connect with the Past: The Wonders of Wigmore Castle Guided Tour

As part of the 2024 Heritage Open Days Festival , English Heritage are , for the first time , providing visitors the opportunity to join our expert volunteer for a guided tour of Wigmore Castle.
Once the stronghold of the turbulent Mortimer family, Wigmore Castle was later dismantled to prevent its use during the Civil War. Now it is among the most remarkable ruins in England, largely buried up to first floor level by earth and fallen masonry. Yet many of its fortifications survive to full height, including parts of the keep on its towering mound.
Tours are being held on Friday 13 September at 11:00 and 13:00 . Limited free parking (car park postcode HR6 9UW) is available a 15 minute walk away from the castle at the village hall (not suitable for coaches). Your tour guide will meet you at St James Church, Wigmoreand please arrive no later than 10 minutes before your tour is due to start. Dogs welcome on leads.
Please note the walk then takes you through the village and up a steep incline to the Castle.
