The Norman Knights Return to Conisbrough: Free entry to castle, Norman Medieval Encampment, Battling Knights, Medieval Surgeon Display, Historical tours led by published Author and expert on the De Warren family, children's fun activities.

Conisbrough Castle will be abuzz today when the Normans will take on the Anglo-Saxons in battle in the inner bailey of the castle thanks to re-enactment group Sudrjorvik. There will be living history displays in the bailey and outside the visitor centre from re-enactors Inferna Peditum and English Heritage volunteers will be engaging young and old alike with medieval crafts and activities from 11:00-15:00. Castle tours from popular historical author Sharon Bennett-Connelly will set off from the visitor centre at 11:00 and 14:00, when she will be bringing alive the history of the castle and its medieval inhabitants.

Full access to all parts of the castle will be available without a ticket for the full period of the event. Light refreshments are available from the site shop.

Directions:
Due to few parking spaces in the village visitors are encouraged to use public transport. Conisbrough Castle is a short walk from Conisbrough train station via Station Road and the X78 bus from Doncaster to Sheffield stops close to the castle grounds. Conisbrough is just off junction 36 of the A1 towards Rotherham.

Accessibility details

Access to the medieval keep is not wheelchair accessible and some of the grounds are uneven. Dogs are welcome on a lead but are not permitted inside the keep for health and safety reasons. Blue badge holders are welcome in the small car park next to the visitor centre and should ring for access on arrival.

Additional information

Refreshments at the castle are limited but there are several businesses a short walk from the castle which can offer a good selection of meals.
