Clayton Hall Living History Museum

Clayton Hall, Clayton Park, Ashton New Road, Manchester, Greater Manchester, M11 4RU

  • Multiple dates available
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

Step back in time at the final home of textile merchant & philanthropist, Humphrey Chetham. The Hall is a Grade II* moated manor house with six Victorian rooms, dressing-up, hands-on activities & local history room. History talks through the day.

Our hands-on living history museum was lovingly created by a small team of volunteers in 2009 within the walls of Clayton Hall.

The remaining section of the building dates back to the 15th Century and is a rare example of a moated, timber framed manor house on a scheduled site, which was once owned by Humphrey Chetham.

Why not join one of our four history talks throughout the day, and learn about the Hall and her owners?

We have six Victorian rooms, with hands-on activities and dressing-up for all ages, plus a Memories Room with our local history archive and large collection of photographs. Don't forget to say hello to Our Polly (our very own Bee in the City sculpture.)

Pauline will be serving her famous home-made delicious light lunches and cakes in our Tudor tea room, all at very reasonable prices.

Come and join us - our friendly volunteers are looking forward to introducing you to Our Old Lady!
