Although its octagonal Baptistery was never built, this inner city dockland church is substantially as Pugin left it in 1857 and has recently undergone comprehensive restoration work , grant aided by Historic England. The West Front , Belfry and North Aisle roof have been substantially rebuilt ; the Guild Room above the Sacristy has been rehabilitated and the attached Presbytery ( also by Pugin ) has been completely renovated , now providing accommodation for a team of four priests, including Cardinal Michael Fitzgerald . Further work is planned for the main roof , the reredos , East Window and the organ.The interior , filled with light from every side , includes stone carving by William Farmer , glass by Hardman of Birmingham , oak and Spanish chestnut flooring originally intended by Pugin for Alton Towers , a Grade I Gray and Davison pipe organ and a polygonal ceiling comprising of 216 panels. The fitted Vestry, Pugin furniture and collection of church brassware are also of considerable interest.The sculpted head of the founder , Bishop Bernard O’Reilly , is to theSouth of the main door.

Parking is very restricted around St. Vincent’s. If you intend to attend the concert of Classical music at nearby St. Patrick’s Church , Park Place , at 7.00 pm on the same evening, 7th September , why not park at St. Patrick’s and take the five minutes’ walk to St. Vincent’s ? En route , you could see the Parish Church of St. James 1774 .
