Christ Church Sowerby Bridge invites you to step back almost 500 years. Travel through time from its riverside origins in 1526, through the bustle and noise of the Industrial Revolution, to its position today, at the centre of the town.

Starting in the Grade II listed church and graveyard, discover the stories of foundry and textile mill owners who built the church from their wealth. How did they answer the questions set by the Factories Commission when interviewed about their workforce? Discover the different lives of rich and poor, written in stained glass or stone. Then follow our digital “History Route” to explore the richness of the wider Sowerby Bridge conservation area and the remaining sites where fortunes were made and lost, as technologies changed and their industries declined.
