Christ Church Mount Pellon Open Day
Church Lane, Pellon, Halifax, West Yorkshire, HX2 0EF
Christ Church is a grade II listed building, with an extensive graveyard, consecrated in 1854. This year we are focussing our Open Day more on the graveyard, home to some fascinating characters. Come along and take a tour, where you can hear some of their stories and chat to volunteers who help to maintain the grounds. There are strong links to the Duke of Wellington Regiment, who will be in attendance at an open air service at 11.00 for the dedication of a new headstone to commemorate eight soldiers from the regiment, buried in the churchyard. It is open to all and promises to be interesting, and colourful. You are welcome to come into church, to enjoy drinks and home made cakes and see some of the artifacts and stunning stained glass windows, including the Te Deum, which is unique in this country for its depiction of a Native American (the only other is in a church in Guernsey). See if you can spot him and look for the mouse on the furniture in the Lady Chapel. There will be old fashioned games for the young, and young at heart, to try, and an opportunity to chat to members of our church family. We look forward to welcoming you to our church.
