Children's Heritage Story Trail

The Tunnel, Emlyn Square, Swindon, Wiltshire, SN1 5BP

  • Available anytime
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

This self-guided heritage trail is designed to bring books out into the streets. A fun, free way for families to explore Swindon’s Railway Village & GWR Park & learn about Swindon’s history from Hannah Dosanjh's book A Railway Town Called Swindon.

The approximately one mile, flat trail starts outside the Bristol Street Tunnel. It follows the route of the Works Heritage Trail to take in GWR Park and the Railway Village including Emlyn Square, the Water Tower, Central Community Centre, the Platform and the Railway Village Museum. Solve questions about Swindon’s history at each of the 15 stops.

With thanks, the trail uses Hannah Dosanjh’s beautiful book A Railway Town Called Swindon. Members can borrow it from Swindon libraries. Or it is available to buy in person from Swindon’s Central Library Shop.

The trail has been created by Swindon Library & Information Service, in partnership with The Works Heritage Trail. It is funded with thanks to Historic England as part of Heritage Open Days.
