Children's Country House at Sudbury: A walk to the Deercote
The Children's Country House, Main Street, Sudbury, Ashbourne, Derbyshire, DE6 5HT
This guided walk will take visitors into the wider estate owned by the National Trust at Sudbury, usually closed to the public but opening especially for these Heritage Open Days.
Starting from the Children's Country House at Sudbury, this 4km walk will include visiting Vernon's Folly (the 18th century Deercote) and historic square pond.
Dating from 1723, the Deercote is a large ornamental deer enclosure to house the hundreds of deer that were once kept on the estate for hunting and sport. The Deercote is a Grade II listed building and sits within the Grade II historic landscape.
Due to the length and uneven ground, this walk is suitable for older children and adults. Unfortunately, there is no access for wheelchairs or buggies.
Guided walk to be booked on the day only at Visitor Services at Children's Country House. Walk does not include entry to Children's Country House, nor do participants on the walk need to be visiting the Children's Country House. Places are limited for the walk. First come, first served.
