Chapel of Rest, West Street Cemetery

57 West Street, Farnham, Surrey, GU9 7AP

  • Multiple dates available
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

The Chapel is now a studio occupied by sculptor Ian Bishop, who will be present during opening times to welcome visitors, explain his work and processes, and show you around the building.

Built in the 1870s of the local white clunch or chalk stone, there were originally two chapels, one for Church of England burials and the other for Nonconformists, with a space between the two for the hearse. The two buildings were amalgamated at a later stage.
The chapel was closed in the 1980s when there were few burials and restored as an artist’s studio by Farnham Town Council.
