Bower Roebuck open day celebrates 125 years of textile manufacturing in New Mill. Book onto one of our working mill tours or drop in for exhibitions, displays, music and competitions. Local businesses will be selling food and refreshments.

Bower Roebuck & Co Ltd was founded in 1899 and continues to manufacture luxury cloth on the same site in New Mill today. For the best part of a century many people will have used the local footpaths connecting the villages down into the mill in the valley and the cloth would be sold at the local piece halls. Now visitors travel from across the globe to view our collections and buy our luxury cloth which is made here in New Mill and shipped across Europe and as far as the USA and the Middle and Far East.

Come and join us for our special Heritage Open Day event between 1300hrs and 1900hrs for family-friendly activities. There will be textile-themed competitions; you can try your hand at yarn wrapping and have a go at weaving on our table loom. Hillstone Fibre Arts will be exhibiting work and demonstrating their textile arts and crafts.

Book onto to one of our three guided tours (booking essential) to see the working mill today, producing the world’s most luxury cloth. As well as manufacturing processes you can view the design collection books of the 1920s 30s and 40s and see how the fashions have changed through the decades.

You will be able to purchase hot and cold food and refreshments which are being provided by local businesses as well as listen to music, making this a real community event.
