  • 12 Sep 2024
  • In person

Meet the team of Burial Research volunteers who research the fascinating lives of people buried at Sheffield General Cemetery.

The SGCT Burial Research Team, based at the Gatehouse office, carry out a burial searches using a database of the 87,000 burials and memorial inscription records compiled from original archives by many Cemetery volunteers over 20 years. Over many years of research and enquiries from the public, the team have built up what are called “People Files” containing high quality information on some of the Cemetery’s residents. These files contain such items as newspaper cuttings, photographs and notes derived from previous research. This valuable information is used to create books and exhibitions. Come and meet the team to learn about the research process, see rare documents and artefacts relating to our latest publications.

Alongside our Global Connections Exhibition, cafe and book shop will be open – purchases by cash, debit/credit card or phone app (e.g. Google Pay, Apple Pay).
