Blythburgh Station Open Day and Model Railway Show

Blythburgh Station was opened in 1879 and closed in 1929 - it is now being restored, and visitors can see the progress. Demonstration freight trains will run, using our unique 88-year-old solar-charged locomotive with replica wagons, as you would have seen on the railway 100 years ago. There are guided tours of the site and its original features including the award-winning restored Victorian Goods Shed, with archeological displays. A large live-steam model railway will run. At the Village Hall (adjacent) are light refreshments (including home-made cake), a selection of unusual model railways, railway films, a railway bookstall, and displays of the work of our volunteers. There is access to railway trackbed walks to east and west. Talk to the volunteers who have transformed the station in five years from complete dereliction to live again as a working railway.

- Blythburgh Station is off the A12, just to the north of Blythburgh village. It is signposted opposite the White Hart pub. Public parking is in the field adjacent to Holy Trinity Church car park (all day), and in the church car park (afternoon). Disabled only parking at the village hall.

Accessibility details
Blue Badge disabled parking only at Village Hall and station. Public parking signposted - a short walk away. Station can be accessed also by walkers from Southwold, Halesworth, Walberswick, and Wenhaston along trackbed and (including cyclists) on mainly quiet roads. The A12 however, is busy, so care is advised when crossing. The station platform has a loose gravel surface,and there are some low steps.
