Behind the Scenes - Derby Local Studies and Family History Tour

Local Studies Library, Riverside Chambers, Full Street, Derby, Derbyshire, DE1 3AF

  • 07 Sep 2024
  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

Join us for a tour around the library stores and find out about the origins and development of the Derby Local Studies collection. Along the way you can enjoy the architecture of CH Aslin's old Magistrates Courts.

Whist the library is open to the public, the collection is held on 'closed access' meaning you cannot browse the shelves. On this tour you will have the opportunity to see the full extent of the collection and how it is stored. You will learn about the work undertaken by library staff and view some of the 'gems' of the collection. You will also get to see areas of the old Magistrates Court building not normally accessible to the public. The building was sympathetically restored in 2014 and represents a fine example of the work of Derby's Borough Architect, Charles Herbert Aslin.
