Beeleigh Water and Steam Mill
Abbey Turning, Old London Road, Maldon, Essex, CM9 6LL
Beeleigh Water and Steam Mill were once one of the largest flour mills in Essex. The site was abandoned after the watermill was destroyed by fire in 1875 although the steam mill survived largely intact, but not operational. The steam mill contains a unique Elephant Boiler, Wentworth Beam Engine and Victorian Milling Hurst. Members of the Beeleigh Mill Restoration Group, who are currently undertaking major restoration work to the engine, will be providing guided tours of the Steam Mill and will explain the history of the Mill and the machinery it contains.

There is no parking at Beeleigh Mill and access is by foot only. The site is unsuitable for visitors with mobility restrictions and inaccessible to wheelchairs or other mobility aids. The external site is uneven and has a gravel surface. There is no accessible toilet available. Note. Entry to Beeleigh Mill is at your own risk.
The steam mill is being restored by the Beeleigh Mill Restoration Group who will be your guides for your visit. They have recently completed repairs to the stone floor, which is now accessible to the public via a steep set of stairs that some people may not be comfortable with. The engine restoration has made good progress and the engine can now be turned using an electric motor drive for demonstration purposes. The mill is close to Beeleigh Falls, where the Rivers Blackwater and Chelmer join together and is a beautiful spot to spend some time on your way to or from visiting the mill.
