Aspects of Mossley
Mossley Heritage Centre, Emmaus, Queen Street, Mossley, Lancashire, OL5 9AH
Mossley is a small mill town whose history was built around the roads, canal, river and railways which created the environment in which the wool and cotton industries flourished.
A short walk will illustrate this looking at canal and other routes through the valley, meeting 13.30 at Two Mills Lane/Wagon Road.
Our Heritage Centre will display photos, artefacts, digital and literary evidence about Mossley and how it developed. From toll houses to WW2 Army telephones, from canal memorabilia to postcards describing Mossley's social life in the early 1900s we invite visitors to explore our fascinating history.
Children can illustrate a map of Mossley, design canal boat decorations, create their own postcards and join in craft activities.

The short canal walk is not wheelchair accessible and children must be accompanied.Dress for the weather! Queen Street is steep and cobbled and parking is difficult. There are a small number of disabled parking spaces in the small carpark attached to the Emmaus building. There is a wasteland area at the bottom of Queen Street where parking is free and there is lots of space but then there is a steep walk up to the Emmaus building . The Heritage Centre has a floor of old stone slabs so can be uneven in places. Toilets and refreshments are available in Emmaus.
Mossley Heritage Centre is in the corner of Emmaus building. Emmaus is a charity and their building contains a cafe, toilets. The charity collects and sells donated goods. It is a very popular place to visit in Mossley.
