The Archive as Pattern, People and Place
Join Donna Claypool in exploring the importance of Bolton Museum's extensive pattern book collection, complete with original artworks, and translating this archive into human experience. Throughout the talk, you will learn about Donna's journey from designer-maker at Manchester Craft and Design Centre to Programme Leader in Textiles and Surface Design at the University of Bolton.
Donna's PhD highlights the significance of the Joseph Johnson collection at Bolton-based mid-century woven furnishing fabric company, housed within the Bolton Museum Archive. Through her creative practice, Donna examines the value of this archive for its insight into objects and patterns, and as a reflection of designs for mid-century domestic interiors.

We are committed to improving access for our customers and we aim to ensure that all customers with access requirements have an enjoyable experience. Unfortunately, our two-storey Victorian building currently has no lift, making first floor access difficult for visitors with mobility restrictions. Both our entrances are step free. On the ground floor we have an accessible toilet with baby change facilities. Disabled parking bays for Blue Badge holders are available on Brick Street & Back Thomas Street and we welcome guide dogs and hearing dogs.
