Visit the Local Studies of Nottingham Central Library to listen to a special talk by artist Rachel Carter with special guests Nottingham Women’s History Group as they delve into historic women connected through the abolitionist movement.

Artist Rachel Carter with the Legacy Makers group are the driving force behind Nottingham’s ambitious new sculpture for the Broad Marsh redevelopment area. It gives representation, voice and recognition to the contributions of thousands of unnamed women who were the driving forces behind the East Midlands cotton textile industry during industrialisation in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Hear how we have delved into the lives of lace makers such as Mary Bailey and Black Abolitionists Ellen Craft who addressed Nottingham audiences in the 19th century.
