Alleyways East Walking Tour

The Forum, Millennium Plain, Norwich, Norfolk, NR2 1TF

  • Multiple dates available
  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

Taking its cue from this year’s theme of Routes, Networks and Connections, this tour gives us an opportunity to look at some of the alleyways, passages and yards that thread their way between the major roads to the east of Norwich city centre.

This is a tour that goes off the beaten track. As befits an important medieval city, Norwich has many alleyways and passages that combine with major routes to form the street plan. These minor routes have some interesting stories to tell. We will reveal the origins of some of the oddly named yards and alleys, visit the site of a famous medieval mystic, and the sites of former pubs. We also will encounter aspects of the lost trades and industries of the city. A story of routes, and of the people who used them.
