Alleyway Children & Sailors: Henry Cook's Victorian Mission

Imagination Refinery, 51-52 High Street, Gosport, Hampshire, PO12 1DF

  • Multiple dates available
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

Exhibition of paintings and display boards to illustrate the experience of ragged school children and humble sailors from South Street and the lanes in Gosport town centre.

See what kind of people inhabited the lower South Street slum courtyards and maze of alleyways.

Activities to include:
- View the paintings exhibition & find answers to complete the quiz sheet.
- Colouring sheets - Henry’s boat + Henry’s wallpaper design from his shop.
- Photo opportunity with young Queen Victoria (lifesize cardboard cut-out.)
- Practice Victorian handwriting.
- Boot polishing and knotting activity - to give a ragged child skills he might need to join the Navy.

It's even likely that 'Henry Cook' might appear from time to time!

This will be an interesting display for adults and lots of fun for children.
