All Saints Cottenham Open Day
All Saints Church, High Street, Cottenham, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, CB24 8SA
All Saints is usually open, but specially for this Heritage Open Day there will be a display on the history of the church and knowledgeable people on hand to guide and tell you about the features that make it the village's single Grade I listed building; or, if you prefer, you can make your own way round with one of our leaflet guides. As well as the display and information on the church, we shall have on loan from Cambridgeshire Archives its highly-rated display, 'The Cambridgeshire Parish Chest', illustrating the sorts of documents that survive from parish churches, essential knowledge for anyone interested in local or family history. At intervals, the organ will be played and there will be refreshments available, all contributing to make this a convivial and educational experience for young or old alike.
Cottenham church tower is truly iconic and houses a peal of 6 bells; the view from the roof extends from Cambridge to Ely. A bellringer will conduct tours up the tower (minimum age 9) at 10.30, 11.30, 1.30 and 3.00 and tell you about the church's ringing heritage. To book in advance email [email protected]. Regrettably if wet we will not be able to allow you out on to the roof.
