Housed in the iconic Grade 1 Listed, timber framed, Tudor Moot Hall and home of the Town Council, the museum displays artefacts about the rich and diverse history of Aldeburgh from the Anglo-Saxons to today, through digital and manual displays.

Find out how the town became a thriving fishing and shipbuilding centre. Discover how the changing coastline has shaped the town and explore its development as a seaside resort, an artists and musicians retreat and learn about the Moot Hall, a Tudor building still in use today for local governance.

The collection provides a unique insight into the lives of the people of Aldeburgh; from Anglo-Saxons to Victorians, not forgetting the medieval witch trials. Discover Aldeburgh’s famous people, such as the first female Doctor, surgeon and mayor in Britain. Of national significance are artefacts from the country's first discovered Anglo-Saxon ship burial.

For children: dress like a Mayor and sit on the chair, a museum discovery trail and lots more to see and do.

The museum collection is in the first floor council chamber and the museum room on the ground floor. Entry to the museum is via the external staircase directly into the Council Chamber. Suitable for all ages.
