Nelson Pit Car Park, Lyme Road, Higher Poynton, Cheshire, SK12 1TH

  • 13 Sep 2024
  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

**THIS EVENT IS NOW SOLD OUT** Join us for a special Heritage Open Days event celebrating the theme of Routes, Networks, and Connections with a scenic canal boat tour of the Poynton Canal aboard the fully accessible Mary Sunley.

This tour is fully accessible and aimed at those with access requirements and limited mobility. At present, we only have wheelchair spaces left for booking. If you would like to be added to our waiting list, please call the Civic Hall.

The canals were vital to the Industrial Revolution, transporting materials to factories and consumers. In Poynton, we are lucky to have the canal on our doorstep, and to celebrate this year's HODs theme of 'Routes, Networks and Connections', the Mary Sunley 2 will be taking small groups on tours lasting an hour and a half each. Knowledgeable volunteers will share fascinating stories about the canal's history - there is plenty to see along the way including other boats, interesting reminders of our industrial heritage as well as much wildlife. During a trip passengers are allowed onto the foredeck where they can sit to take in the sun and the views and there will be tea and coffee available.

The Mary Sunley 2 is licensed to carry up to 12 passengers and 4 crew. Of the 12 passengers up to 4 can be in wheelchairs. If you would like to attend and book one of these wheelchair spaces, please contact 01625 872238 and ask for Jenny, or email [email protected]

There is a lift to lower wheelchairs and people with poor mobility in and out of the cabin. The toilet on board is suitable for wheelchairs and the boat is centrally heated.

Due to the limited spaces on this event, we cannot allow group bookings.
