A rare opportunity to visit Abbey House next to the iconic Whitby Abbey on Wednesday 11th September from 10am to 3pm.

Abbey House sits next to the iconic Whitby Abbey. This Grade 1 listed building was once the Manor House and is now run by the Youth Hostel Association. Not usually open to the public, this is a rare chance to come and look inside the building as well as visit the beautiful garden which is based on the original seventeenth-century design. See the medieval beam that was discovered hidden within the walls depicting the infamous Whitby Wyrm. Could this creature be Grendal from Beowulf or the inspiration for Tokien's dragons, also known as the Great Worms? We will share some of the myths and legends of old Whitby as we guide you around. Why not finish your visit in our cafe with spectacular views across the harbour to the sea?
